In May of 2001, then mayor Harvey Hall wrote a strongly worded memo stating the city would never sign a freeway agreement with Caltrans for any route passing through Westpark.

Westpark over the years

Nothing but fields. California Ave didn't exist thru here at this time-- it ended at the 99 freeway.

Stockdale Highway runs thru the center, the 99 is vertical along the right. Note the then new "California Ave Extension".
Westpark is located in the top right section: the street grid is visible, with the first houses on Del Rey Court.

By 1981 the original development is complete. The houses to the west of Centennial Park have yet to be constructed.
